Your article in the NC Medical Journal was well done. I'm sure you're happy your prediction of failure for health care reform legislation was not borne out. This bill is just a start I hope. We are still not dealing with what is needed for effective cost control. See the very sensible columns in the NY Times by David Leonhart. Also malpractice reform should have been a pat of this and should attract bipartisan support.
the column I wrote Aug 7 in the N and O focuses on malpractice. A mistake to do more both politically and in policy terms on this...though I don't think $ savings is the primary policy benefit. But, the system is totally messed up and we need to transition to a patient safety approach. But, that could come in a follow up bill....I have a column coming in Thus News and Observer that lays out what I think is step 2 to get more serious about costs.
